LARGE SCALE MAPS
I worked with a Year 6 group to create these large-scale, Hundertwasser-inspired paintings. The group were reading Anne Frank’s diary at the time and learning a little of the horrors of the Holocaust. Jewish artist, Friedensreich Hundertwasser seemed a fitting artist to study alongside this book as he lived through the Second World War and he and his mother survived only by posing as Christians.
These large scale paintings are in fact maps of the annex within which Anne and her family hid during the war. Children worked in teams, mapping out each section with pencil and ruler. They then went on to create more curved edges and organic shapes using brightly coloured paints.
