I worked with a Year 2 class to recreate this forest scene from the Russian folktale, Baba Yaga.
Firstly, the children prepared the papers that we would use to create the forest. In groups, the children were given either blue, green or brown paint to paint large sheets of plain wallpaper. They then used my mark making tool kit (discarded items such as plastic forks, chopsticks…even my granny’s rollers!) to add interesting marks with another colour.
Children went on to characters from the story, including some rather interesting forest creatures!
I created the final scene by cutting out the painted wallpaper to make the forest and then adding the characters.
